For a long time, OLED display supply has been exclusive to Samsung Electronics. Some time ago, we reported that BOE’s Chengdu factory is set for a mass production of the 6th generation flexible AMOLED screens. Now, BOE’s latest OLED display prototype has been spotted online. This is a time where most smartphone manufacturers want a switch to OLED displays and it appears that BOE came up with its product at the right time.
There are already rumors that the Chinese company is targetting a deal with Apple which is Samsung’s major customer for OLED display. This deal will not be difficult to seal because there is no doubt that Apple will not like to deal with its arch-rival. However, it is not as simple as it sounds.

BOE’s new display is quite identical to the iPhone X’s. While we can not be sure of its quality, BOE is certainly trying to prove a point that it can produce what Samsung can or even better. The leaked AMOLED display is a 6.18-inch display with 2992 x 1440 pixel resolution. It has a PPI of 537 and a screen brightness of 390 nits. Naturally, BOE’s display will be expected to be cheaper than Samsung’s and this will obviously give more Chinese manufacturers the chance to use AMOLED display.
390nits is not enough it should atleast reach 450
390nits is not enough it should atleast reach 450
All those nits Samsung provides is impractical
You need at least 500 for outdoor use.
That’s not an identical to iPhone X screen people. Look at the thin bezels and the different look of the stuff on that notch. This was the original design of Mi MIX 2 by Xiaomi. There are other articles about how Xiaomi has a connection with BOE to manufacture OLED screens for them which would have happened if they’d gone with this design for MIX 2. But poor fan feedback led them to scrapping this design for the MIX 2 design we have now. But in terms of the design this was meant to be Xiaomi’s answer to its own Mi MIX concept that took the world by storm in 2016. That phone had a screen to body ratio of 91.3% which is to this day unrivaled. This design was supposed to be the successor at about 95-97% screen to body.

Notice how this picture looks much more like what that BOE model looks like compared to iPhone X. Even though Apple copied this design for whatever reason they couldn’t build it like the model. The bezels were much thicker, the phone itself was thicker but for the notch they added a dot projector and infrared which this design and the BOE model don’t seem to have. On that notch it looksl ike it would just be a selfie camera, speaker grill and proximity sensor on the left. Of course Apple changed it because of facial recognition which it was releasing to give iPhone X something to promote even though they probably also got that idea from
