Gestures as a way to navigate OS interface has been around for long. We’ve seen them even in Blackberry touchscreen devices like the Q10 for example. But they’ve just got more mainstream when the iPhone X shed most of its bezel mass resulting in a home button casualty. No home button meant there had to be a substitute for a tap to go home. So, a swipe up to go home was introduced.
Gizchina News of the week
Now, it seems more and more phone makers have started liking the feature. We recently reported that OnePlus is working on a similar feature for OnePlus 5T. Now, Xiaomi is also set to include gestures with a new update to MIUI 9. As of now, Xiaomi will introduce the feature only to its bezel-less offerings. That is the recently revealed Redmi 5/5 Plus and also on the Mi Mix series.
This is confirmed by Xiaomi on its MIUI forums and there’s also a description on how the feature works. It’s fairly simple, of course. Swipe up from bottom takes you home. Swipe from left or right to the middle takes you one step back. And Swipe from bottom and stop will bring up the recent menu.
These gestures will be introduced with MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM 7.12.28 shortly in a future update. This is a highlight feature with the upcoming ROM. Apart from that there will be some more new features as well which we will come to know when the OTA is live
