In a very unusual marketing move, Elephone have decided to distance themselves from the upcoming Samsung S9 and change the name of what we’ve been calling Elephone S9 & S9 Pro for weeks to Elephone U and U Pro for the beefier variant.
Elephone say that the “U” reminds the shape of the curved display and they’re probably going to find other meanings as well in the future. What’s somewhat funny is that we already have “U” smartphones on the market, but then again, there are probably phones with every letter of the alphabet by now.
Back to the important stuff, the Elephone U and Elephone U Pro will be coming with a Mediatek Helio P23 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 CPU respectively. Elephone unveiled that one of the handset scored 80563 as top score on the Antutu benchmarks platform, other scores were: 80127, 79813, 79428 and 79012.
Gizchina News of the week
The Chinese phone maker did not want to reveal which of the two phones achieved said result but it’s quite obvious we’re looking at the Elephone U, as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 is able of scoring around 100k.
