As the months pass, Xiaomi continues to go from strength to strength in India. The company’s budget smartphones have been well received by the price conscious Indian populace. And it looks that, the Chinese brand’s dominance will continue. Xiaomi India head, Manu Kumar Jain, tweeted yesterday that they’ve sold more than 1 million Redmi 5A units in India in 1 month.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A launched on December 7, 2017, is an entry-level phone, a successor to the Redmi 4A. It was launched at a rock bottom price of Rs 5,999 (2 GB). Further, there was a straightforward discount of Rs 1,000 for the first 5 million buyers. At that price, it was an impulse buy for many. Moreover, the Indian market lacked proper competition in that price segment, so it might have made things easier for Xiaomi. The handset quickly got sold out in the first and subsequent flash sales held on online portals.
