Xiaomi & Others Prepare To Launch Smartphones With Mini LED Screen

There is a consistent shortage in the availability of OLED screen because Apple has at least three smartphones to be released this year (at least two of them will use OLED screens) and it is expected that they will be supplied first. This trend has left the other manufacturers scrambling for the crumbs that are left after Apple is satisfied. In the search for a lasting solution to this issue, reports from Taiwan suggests that Xiaomi and other manufacturers are preparing to launch mobile phones equipped with mini LED screens. The manufacturing process will probably hit the road from Q2 2018, and the most significant advantages of this screen are that it is more energy efficient, has colour reduction power and its thickness is comparable to OLED displays.

China Taiwan’s largest mini LED chipmaker, Epistar, stressed that the production of mini LED chips for smartphones and TV sets may start in the second half of the year, and the relevant specifications will be finalised in the first half of the year. Mini LED chips for high-end game displays may also be in production later this year. Also, it should be noted that the Mini LED uses backlight technology and has more LED lamp beads to achieve a more sophisticated HDR partition.

OLED displays have a lot of issues: burned and/or yellowish displays, these happen even in the expensive OLED LG TVs.
The solution is Quantum Dot displays, they have almost the same quality as OLED displays but without their issues.
Hisense and Samsung in TVs but none in smartphones. Nubia could be a good candidate because they do not have smartphones with OLED displays.

  Not really. Quantum display only has better colour gamut and better brightness than OLED display. OLED destroys every other display technology with better unmatched infinity black and contrast. Even the best LED VA panel cannot match OLEDs superior picture quality. Yellowish problem is an old OLED problem that has been fixed long time ago. Old nokia and samsung OLED phone used to do that. Newer OLED tv from LG has none of those issue. And screen burn in will only happens if some idiot put the screen brightness high all the time and used it for like half a day. I have used the old samsung galaxy s2 for three years and i never got a single screen burn in issue aside from pixel dying, which can also happened to led display btw. The only new display technology that might beat an OLED panel is microLED which is still on development.
