For those of you, who’ve been wishing to see Samsung aggressively price their phones, their dreams will come true in 2018. A new report from the Economic Times says that Samsung is planning to flex its muscles in the super competitive online market. The publication cited senior industry executives that Samsung will launch an online exclusive series in India. What makes the new series different from the already exclusive online On series of Samsung phones is the value for money factor.
Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A8+ (2018) in India exclusively on Amazon. But the new series will be different. It will be aimed at Xiaomi’s dominant segment. According to the report, the handsets under the series will be priced from Rs 5,000 ($78) to Rs. 15,000 ($236). Moreover, they will possess specs on-par with Xiaomi’s mid-range handsets. It’s no secret that Xiaomi’s recent dominance in the Indian market is all thanks to the online sales. A research from IDC recently revealed that Xiaomi has managed to accumulate 23.5% share in Q3 of 2017. That’s no small feat by any means. Moreover, the Chinese brand now accounts for 50% of all online smartphone sales in India.

When will the new series be launched?
As to when this series might be launched, there is no detail in the report. However, it is certain that the online series will not be launched at the expense of Samsung’s successful retail stores. The company will continue to push offline stores as it is a major advantage against Xiaomi. Xiaomi is well aware of it’s offline disadvantage and has started pumping money in China to develop a significant offline presence. Obviously, after expansion in China, India will be the next target.
