Since the launch of Google Pixel smartphones, they have struggled with one issue or another which include a burn-in on the OLED panel, screen flash when the phone is unlocked, faulty USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter, unresponsive screen edges and a faint buzzing sound during calls. While some of these issues were fixed with an OTA update, others were hardware problems that required replacement. Last year, it came to light that the mic of some units of Google Pixel phones only worked after switching to the loudspeaker during calls. Now, there is a confirmation that if you have this problem, apply for a replacement. The community manager at Pixel User community and Google employee, Orrin, said
“Looks like there are a number of different situations being reported, and I wanted to hop in and offer some clarification. If you are experiencing microphone issues on your Pixel device, please do one of the following:
Pixel in warranty – Please contact Google 1:1 support. You can do this by going through the settings app in your device, or by clicking “contact us” in the upper right-hand corner of the Help Center
Pixel out of warranty – Please contact the authorized service partner. This will vary depending on the country and you can find a list here
Pixel 2 – Please contact Google 1:1 support”

Although Orrin’s statement did not directly ask users with this problem to file for a replacement, many users have confirmed on a long thread that they have received their replacements. In some cases, a repair was given, and one user even confirmed that the replacement given had the same issue thus another replacement is expected. See screenshot of relevant portions of the thread below
If you own a Pixel smartphone and you are experiencing this issue, contact Gooogle Support, and they are most likely to either repair your smartphone or replace it.
