Face unlock has just started to become a thing with a number of Android smartphones adopting the tech inspired by Apple. The OnePlus 5T got a surprise Face Unlock feature that turned many heads. Huawei also went all in with the feature on several of its latest phones. For such a new feature, you’d expect it to take time to come to entry-level phones.
We expect the new feature to be on more and more smartphones as we progress in 2018. However, a new report states that MediaTek is ready to bring the feature on Android Go phones. MediaTek’s implementation works on-device which means no data is stored in the cloud. It is also claimed to be fast as much as 0.5 seconds. Moreover, MediaTek is expected to load the MT6739 SoC with support for Face Unlock. The chip also comes with other cutting-edge features like 18:9 HD+ display, and 13MP+2MP dual camera setup with bokeh effect.
