Presently, the entire mobile tech world is focused on MWC where a lot of devices have been released by manufacturing heavyweights like Samsung and Sony. A few hours ago, Chipmaker MediaTek announced its new mid-range king, Helio P60. Now, the company has announced its collaboration with China Mobile with the aim of looking into the development, testing, verification and technical solutions of 5G devices. With this collaboration will expedite the development process of 5G chips. Field testing is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018, preliminary rollout should commence in 2019 while commercial rollout is scheduled for 2020.

MediaTek’s 5G solution will meet the demands of local network operators worldwide with its Millimeter Wave (mmWave). Its 5G baseband solution is based on the 3GPP Rel-15 5G NR standard which supports New Radio (NR), sub-6GHz band, standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) networks amongst others.
MediaTek’s Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Kevin Jou, said
“MediaTek has made considerable progress having invested significant manpower and time in 5G technology and product development,”…“Joining China Mobile’s 5G Device Forerunner Initiative demonstrates that MediaTek is capable of meeting the requirements of one of the world’s largest operators. MediaTek products will greatly speed up the maturity and penetration of 5G ecosystems so consumers around the world can enjoy the convenience of 5G as soon as possible.”
MediaTek has been displaying its latest progressions in 5G research at the ongoing MWC. When completed, its 5G technology will not only be useful to smartphones, it will also be compatible with other device formats such as IoT and modem modules.
