The Redmi Note 5 Pro is poised to launch in China on March 16th. The company has teased the launch on Weibo and it will apparently be called the Redmi Note 5. However, Chinese users will be treated to the latest Android version as compared to the Indian variant.
In India, the Redmi Note 5 Pro shipped with Android Nougat and MIUI 9.2 out of the box. We saw the Lake Blue variant receive TENAA certification in China yesterday. More digging in the documents have revealed Android 8.1 Oreo is on the cards.

According to XDA, the update is to be expected as it was previously said to bring support for Project Treble. As it stands, just a handful of devices right not support treble. It’s really great to see Xiaomi going that extra length for customers just to bring that much extra. However, it would have been nice if the Indian variant would also have received the same treatment.
Moreover, China will also see a Lake Blue variant launch alongside the other two colours whereas in India it is still unavailable. Both the Redmi Note 5/Note 5 Pro have sold out in their first flash sale as per the company’s info.
As it is, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is an irresistible package. we’ve managed to get our hands on the Lake Blue one. Getting it on Project Treble will make it even more exciting.
