Motorola is one of the few companies that has managed to somewhat implement the modularity concept in their smartphones. Namely, the Moto Z lineup. With Moto Mods ranging from speakers to cameras to gaming, pads are available for the Moto Z series. Veteran tipster Evan Blass has reported that there is another Moto Mod waiting to be unleashed, known as the Virtual Viewer. As the name suggests, it is designed specifically for VR.

The Virtual Viewer looks no different than any other VR headset. The only distinguishing factor is the modified front. All the other VR headsets need for you to strap on your phone to the headset. But this headset has a slide-in space for the smartphone, and if we are to speculate, the interfacing would happen vis the pins that sit on the back of the Moto Z phones. This means that the VR headset might not be able to interface with any other smartphone. It was quite obvious since it will be a part of the Moto Mods family.
To be honest, I find this Moto Mod pretty redundant. Firstly, there are already VR headsets on the market that are compatible with Motorola devices. Making a proprietary VR headset does not make sense unless Motorola has something new and special up their sleeve that will set this Moto Mod apart from the other. Let’s hope it’s the latter.
