At this year’s edition of MWC held in Barcelona, Spain, South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung, unveiled its latest flagship devices – Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. It became the first Android device to rock the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC but this device has been hit with a lot of criticism because apart from its better chipset and a couple of camera tweaks, the S9 series is nothing different from the Galaxy S8 series. Pre-orders for these smartphones in Korea commenced on February 28 and initial unconfirmed reports suggest that its performance is lower than the S8 series.

Now, latest confirmed reports out of South Korean shows that the Galaxy S9 series did make a bad start. The number of pre-orders on the first day was 30% lower than that of the S8 series. To be precise, the Galaxy S9 had only 180,000 pre-orders on the first day while the S8 series recorded 260,000 in the same period. In addition, data from JD.com suggests that the number of pre-orders for the S9 series is quite poor. All versions add up to only 4,000. The most common is the S9+ Mystery Night Black Edition which had 1,650 pre-orders on JD. Industry sources estimate that the sales of the S9 series may end up with only about 70-80% of the S8 series.
