The VIVO Apex hasn’t even arrived the stores yet, but it appears the company is about to up its ante once more as it is reportedly already working on a new phone that might come with one of the unique features that made the Apex achieved its very high screen-to-body ratio.
While we are yet to ascertain the authenticity of this, a new report from China has it that the unannounced Vivo Xplay7 may feature a pop-up camera. This isn’t the first we are getting to hear of the Vivo Xplay7, the device first popped up in the news back in 2017 when the device was spotted with an under-display fingerprint scanner and a very high screen to body ratio with a circular cutout for the front-facing camera and sensors. The current report claims the company may have completely abandoned the previous design with the circular cutout on the display for the pop-up camera module similar to that of the Vivo Apex.
Gizchina News of the week
We do not know what becomes of the two other weird features of the Vivo Apex – SoundCasting and the in-display fingerprint sensor, the latter is, however, likely to be retained given that the company has already released phones with such sensors.
The Vivo Xplay7 is also rumored to feature other premium flagship specs and features including a dual rear camera setup, a Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. We hope to get more details about the Vivo Xplay7 soonest, probably from a TENAA listing.
The only issue with vivo is lack of international Rom. And lack of Support for Android update to funtouch os platform. Xiaomi on the Otherhand has mastered this beautifully. What’s the point of showing a technology prowess if you are not planning to sell internationally . Both previous xpaly versions never made it to international market. Bbk needs to rethink vivo strategy since market cannibalisation is not an issue if vivo targets other markets rather than oppo and oneplus
Their marketing strategy currently has them as the number 2 phone maker in the world behind Samsung all while selling in the same markets and with little to no footprint in the West. I think they are doing just fine. Oppo has a feature that lets you load up secondary launchers which goes a long way in smoothing out issues. But they don’t even use many foreign antenna bands so I don’t think they care to sale outside of their designed areas. One of the reasons I love the Mi Mix 2 and even my Mi Note 2 is that I can take that phone everywhere and still have 4g. This type of work is the reason for Xiaomi’s rapid growth, but I don’t think BBK is worried. Huawei should be though.
Out of interest when is Mi Mix 3 & Mi Note 4 likely to launch ?
They have been pretty consistent about the November launch frame for both the Mi Mix and Note. You can think of the Mi 7 and the Mi Note similar to how OnePlus does the OP5 and OP5T. Xiaomi deciding to release an “S” model version of their Mi Mix2 says that they plan to do the same thing with this phone as well. November should be an interesting month.
