Seems like Mediatek is striking back with their new processor lineup and for example during the MWC 2018 the Helio P60 scooped quite some awards, like the “best of MWC” from AndroidAuthority. It indeed looks quite powerful according to the benchmark results, like the fantastic 5871 multi-core score in Geekbench.
The processor is meant to pose a substantial challenge in the higher midrange segment of the market to the Snapdragon 660 and it should catch up too in the means of GPU power. The new Mali-G72MP3 image processor with 12 threads and independent APU for artificial intelligence can boost up the performance up to 70 % compared to last generation. So the phone makers will start taking the powerful chipset onboard and one of the first should be the UMIDIGI Z2.
Gizchina News of the week
Today’s leaks are putting the estimated price of the upcoming UMIDIGI Z2 in the vicinity of $300, so the midrange orientation of the phone is quite clear. Other rumours circling this phone include AI, emoji support, quick focus, bokeh camera, infrared camera and 15W ultra fast wireless charging support. And of course the modern notched display. Looking forward to seeing more.
Is there any official sample of high frame rate slomo video or 4K video encoding speed of this P60?
Not really sure what you asked but P6 DSP is very capable & same one used as in latest Equnos & Kirin SoC’s so video capabilities should be on pair. All do we don’t know which P6 configuration MTK will use as DSP is capable of up to MP4 but they will probably use no MP. Samsung latest flagship Equnos in S9 use P6 MP2.
so far the mtk helio p60 has gained from the qalcom line 626 and 636

since qalcom needed to use the 845 line to compete with helio p60 .. picture the newly launched helio p70
It won’t met neither performance nor power efficiency of now old generation Adreno 512 in the best case scenario it will meet Adreno 509 performance still being significantly less power efficient. They won’t sell any at 300$ price as again Mi Note 3 can be bought right now for the same price & powerd by Snapdragon 660 & certainly much better in every aspect. & their is no specialised neural network accelerator either it uses Tensilica P6 multi purpose programmable DSP. In best case G72 MP3 is comparable to the T880 MP4 regarding the performance while being 20% more efficient.
I think we should just wait for real life results, maybe mediatek is into something great, i wish them the best.
I do consider the real life results.
Now do your math.
G72 MP 18 on new Equnos 9810 is some 20% faster than S835 Adreno A540, A512 is half the performance of the A540. Now G72 on Equnos is clocked at 572 MHz the one on MTK P60 will be clocked considerably higher 800~900 MHz which will bring the performance up 40~60% per cluster (with close to tripled power consumption per cluster). That brings us to; G72 MP3 on P60 will be able to achieve 23.3~26.6% performance of G72 MP18 on Exunos SoC & A512 achieves some 45%. In fact it will even be slower than Adreno 509 & 510 (that achieve some 30 – 29%) so it won’t even meet the performance of the T880 MP4 from X20 (29~30%).
Math never lies all do you need to have brain to use it.
MTK remains the cheap basterd’s so you can wish them what ever you want it won’t help. P60 is cheaper to produce than S636 (a bit smaller GPU & based on the process that employees less layers), MTK will seel it cheaper but really difference is only couple bucks so it won’t really influence much the price of the final product.
Edit
In fact if P70 comes with a G72 MP4 & similar clock’s that would put it to 31% to 35.5% of Equnos 9810 performance. In the meantime the new generation of high end mid range (S7xx), midrange (S640) & upper end midrange (S670) will be shipping & bringing the 40% increase in GPU performance thanks to the A6xx GPU generation when compared to current contra parts they are ment to replace.
If the rumours are true and new line of S7xx will have a 3/4 sized GPU compared to one on S845 that would put it same performance as current S835 with some 25~30% lower power consumption achieving 90~91% of the performance of Equnos used hire for comparison. That would put S7xx to a first chance for anyone who wants to play game’s on mobile as peek performance will be equal to the real usage & comparable even to what S845 in real usage can sustain. But by all means & price of it S7xx won’t be a midrange SoC nor find place in the mid range phone’s as estimated price of the SoC will be some 75~80% of what ever QC is charging for S845.
Let’s just wait on real world use 20% faster etc might not even be visible to users and can even be a difference in only seconds
