The Essential Phone gets some Oreo goodness
Essential Phone owners are a rare bunch to find, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone is still a fine device, with some nice selling points and a unique design. Now, the company can finally add ‘running on Android 8.1 Oreo’ to that list. Yes, that’s right, the Essential Phone’s Oreo update is now here, after months of waiting.
For those those who don’t care for the device, this update has been in the works for quite a while. The Android Oreo 8.0 update beta went up last year and ran on for a month. After that, Essential went on to shaft the update due to stability issues, promising to skip straight to 8.1 with the next update. Well, the update has finally gone live, and all users should receive the update anytime now.

For those of you who use an Essential Phone, you can check for the update in your settings. There is a section that lets you search for any new updates, which is what you want. The update should show up, though if it doesn’t then don’t panic. Chances are, this is a slow release that comes to a subset of devices first before rolling out to more.
It’s great that Essential Phone users can now enjoy Android Oreo without the need of signing for the beta program. Those of you who use the Essential Phone and have received the update, are there any changes that you particularly like or dislike?
