Xiaomi has officially announced it will release the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 tomorrow, on March 16 at 2 PM. Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun called it a water bucket machine, which simply means it’s well-balanced and has no obvious shortcomings. But we also have learned the photography is the selling point of this device.
This is the Chinese version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro launched earlier in India. Plus, the Redmi Note 5 has passed the TENAA certification. So everything concerning its features is known. Say, we know it will come with a 5.99-inch 2160×1080 full-screen, Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, 4/6GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB storage, 12+5MP rear dual-camera, 13MP front camera, 4000mAh battery, and many more.

But this phone has been promoted as a camera-phone from the very start. We know it will come with an AI dual-camera, AI face unlocking, AI smart beauty, AI portrait mode, soft light self-timer, background blur, etc. Plus, it will provide way better low-light shooting performance. This sounds good. But we also should remember we are dealing with a thousand-yuan machine.
However, Lei Jun also said the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5’s main camera will particularly support 2PD full-pixel dual-core speed focus and has a large photosensitive area of 1.4-micron pixels. As for the first feature, it refers to the camera sensor to obtain optical information through two photodiodes, and then quickly make cross-operations to control the focus motor for a faster focusing. This technology was introduced when the Canon SLR cameras were introduced. But now it’s used on many smartphones coming our way from Samsung, ASUS, HTC, and VIVO. But all those phones are flagships costing too high. In this sense, it turns out Xiaomi could bring this technology to the mid-range (low-end) market. So we can state it continues proving a quality product can be priced low.
