While many are feasting their eyes on the Huawei P20/Pro and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S launched today, there is another model that deserves our attention more. Along with the P20 and its higher variant, the Chinese tech giant announced the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design, which is a true flagship and is the first of its type. As you can guess, the RS stands for Race Sports – this handset is inspired by the Porsche 911 fluid body design.
First time in the history, three top brands from various niches united to make an astonishing handset. Huawei, Porsche, and Leica jointly designed the world’s most stylish and one of the most powerful smartphones. It uses a minimalist style with an eight-curved 3D glass body. It also comes with an IP67 rating (waterproof and dustproof).
The Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design doesn’t use the latest bands screen, but it is packed with a traditional full-screen. The 6-inch OLED curved screen provides a 2K resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. To emphasize the family it belongs to, the designers have added the PORSCHE DESIGN phrase to the chin. Two Dolby Atmos SLS speakers are on upper and lower parts.
Gizchina News of the week
This is the world’s third smartphone after the VIVO X20 Plus UD and VIVO X21 UD that comes with an under-display fingerprint identification. But there is also a rear-mounted traditional fingerprint reader. So this is for the first time when a smartphone uses a dual-fingerprint recognition technology as well as a face unlock option.
Moreover, the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design is the second smartphone after the Huawei P20 Pro that comes with a Leica tri-camera. The latter uses a 20MP black and white lens on the top, a 40MP RGB color lens in the middle, and an 8MP telephoto sensor on the bottom. Thanks to them it supports 5x zoom and ISO up to 102400.
Under the hood, it carries a Kirin 970 chip paired with a 6GB of RAM, 256/512GB of internal storage, and a 4000mAh battery supporting 5V/5A/22.5W wired super-fast charging, and 10W wireless fast charging. Thus this is the world’s first 512GB smartphone.
For the first time, an internal heat dissipation has used microcapsule phase change heat dissipation technology that is mainly used in the aerospace field. It deploys up to 9.4 million microcapsules to control heat generation.
Finally, in terms of pricing, the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design 6+256GB is priced at 1695 euros, while the 6+512GB is 2095 euros. It will be listed on April 12 and can also be purchased with an advanced leather case.
I’m not paying anywhere near 2000 bucks for a phone.
Atleast it has Wireless Qi charging. Can’t believe the P10 and P20 series don’t have it.
Still… the P20 Pro is a pretty sick phone.
Wonder if like the P10 Plus it has an IR blaster for remote control.
IR blaster remains. 🙂
