We have seen quite a lot of leaks and rumors regarding the OnePlus 6 doing the rounds in the last few weeks, with the most recent being that the smartphone will have a notch in its display, at least according to a purported official image obtained by the verge. While there has been the general belief that OnePlus next flagship will be called the OnePlus 6, latest rumors center on whether it will be called the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 7 or even Oneplus 8.
OnePlus’ co-founder, Pete Lau, in the early hours of today made a confusing post on his official Weibo which seems to be an indication that the company might skip the OnePlus 6 name. The update was however made in Chinese, but as per Google translate, the post directly translates to “Equal to 7 or 8 equal to it”, which makes us think that the CEO may have indirectly hinted that the next OnePlus-branded flagship may be called the OnePlus 7 or 8.
Gizchina News of the week
Nothing new or unusual about skipping the number 6 direct to number 7 or 8, Oneplus did skip the OnePlus 4 for the OnePlus 5 citing tetraphobia – which associates the number ‘four’ with bad luck as the reason behind its decision, but it remains unclear to us why the company may want to skip the OnePlus 6 for OnePlus 7 or 8 as the number ‘6’ is not considered to be unlucky in China.
While we do not have much to report about the upcoming OnePlus flagship, early details reveal that the device might sport the company’s biggest screen to date, with a notch-assisted screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent, and an overall size not larger than any previously released OnePlus phone.
