Amazon Echo Spot Makes its Way to India, Silently


The Amazon Echo Spot is now available for purchase on Amazon India for Rs. 10,499 (~$155), discounted from the actual price of Rs. 12,999 (~$195). Amazon chose to be quite inconspicuous with the Echo Spot’s launch. No queues, no flashy banners or ads.

For those of you who don’t know, think of the Echo Spot as the Echo Dot with the capability of making video calls, reading news, ordering stuff, watching videos, etcetera. The Echo Spot has a 2.5-inch circular display for browing videos and articles from websites like Dailymotion, Vimeo, and Prime Video. The front camera enables video calls between two Echo Spot devices directly and with Android and IOS via the Alexa Companion application.

Speaking of voice control, the Spot comes with 2nd-Gen far-field technology that uses four microphones along with acoustic beam forming technology and noise cancellation support. You can connect your Bluetooth speakers to the Spot apart from the 3.5mm aux port. The Amazon Echo Spot allows for multi room synchronization across multiple Echo devices.

The Echo Spot measures 104 x 96 x 91mm and weighs 419g. It supports dual band WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n). It features support for customised background and clock faces and bring in all the qualities of the other Echo devices along with the screen. Alexa is the AI responsible for all the actions that you ask the Spot to do. While idle, the Echo Spot sits as a table clock and displays clock and weather information depending upon the watch face.

The Echo Spot is available on Amazon India in Black and White colour options. Apart from Amazon,it will also be available through offline retailers like Croma, Reliance,and Vijay Sales.
