The general expectation is that any smartphone launched this year should automatically come with the latest Android Oreo OS out of the box. However, this is not the case as many smartphones launched this year came with and are still running Android 7.0 Nougat. Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are perfect examples of this scenario but current reports suggest that the company is working on the Oreo update for Galaxy A8 (2018).
Gizchina News of the week
According to the reports, the company just started working on this update thus it may take a while to see this update rollout. As of now, wild guesses point to a July or August release of this update. Samsung Galaxy A8 official Nougat firmware has the model number A530FXXU2ARD3 while the current Oreo test builds for the device comes with the firmware number A530FXXU2BRDx.
Looking at the two model numbers, there is a change of letter “A” to “B”. Such changes usually point to either a major update with a change in the Android version or a major update that brings new features. The latter is unlikely to be the case for Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ thus this suggests that the Oreo update for these smartphones is in the works.
