Xiaomi has been particularly focusing on elevating the camera experience on its smartphones this year. We saw it with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Mi Mix 2s, and other Xiaomi devices. The Redmi S2 which is now official embodies Xiaomi’s intent to bring its A-game when it comes to selfies.
The company kicked off the event where it said that the Redmi S2 was their best Redmi device for selfies ever. The quality of the 16MP front shooter with 2μm pixel size of the Redmi S2 was showcased with some selfie shots. It has an AI portrait mode and an AI beauty mode. The company said that their AI algorithm does a great job at distinguishing subject and background. This helps them get great selfies. Also, the AI beauty mode is capable of highlighting the right facial areas by detecting make up. Also, the Redmi S2 has face unlock out of the box.

The rear twin cameras consist of a primary 12MP lens with 1.25μm pixel size and a 5MP depth sensor.
As for the rest, the Redmi S2 uses a 5.99-inch (1440 × 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 display that works with a Snapdragon 625 processor. Xiaomi has loaded Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on the storage of the device. The package is powered by a 3,080mAh battery without fast charge.
The handset has dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, and fingerprint reader support as well.
The Redmi S2 is available in Rose gold, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver colours.
As for pricing, there are two variants.
3GB RAM with 32GB storage version: 999 yuan (US$ 156 / Rs. 10,560 approx.)
4GB RAM with 64GB storage version: 1299 yuan (US$ 204 / Rs. 13,735 approx.) .
