In 2017, the global smartphone market showed a declining trend for the first time. But what’s worse, this trend is present in 2018 as well. The major smartphone manufacturers are facing severe challenges. But all these troubles do not touch Xiaomi. Actually, it performs differently.
In 2016, Xiaomi as on a ledge. But last year shipped more smartphones than planned reaching 91.41 million units. In 2018, the company continues this incredible performance. And it doesn’t refer to the Chinese market only.
According to IDC, the global smartphone shipments reached 344.4 million units in the first quarter of 2018, 2.2% year-on-year. On the contrary, Xiaomi showed a very high growth rate of 87.8%, while its market share reached 8.4%. In comparison to other big players, Huawei had a growth rate of 13.8%; Apple had a growth rate of 2.8%; Samsung and OPPO had a decline.

In Europe, according to data from Canalys, Xiaomi shipped 2.4 million units in the first quarter. Though it makes the company be the fourth only, the year-on-year increase was over 999%. It’s an outstanding momentum.
In Indonesia, Xiaomi shipped 1.7 million units in the first quarter, ranking second leaving forward only Samsung. Its growth rate was 1455%.
That’s not a secret, Xiaomi is an absolute leader in India, ranked first for the past three quarters. Its market share reached a new height of 31.1%, which is 4.9% more than Samsung’s market share.
In Spain, Xiaomi’s market share reached 14.1% in half a year, landing in third place.
Taking into account all these results, no one should cast doubt Lei Jun’s words; ‘we’ll return to the first position in China’s smartphone market in ten quarters.’
