Asus finally rolls out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Zenfone 3 Zoom

Asus never had the best track record in terms of providing timely updates to its smartphones, if their flagships suffer from this what to say about the other handsets that aren’t on the priority list? Well, the company promised to deliver the Zenfone 3 Zoom and Zenfone 3 Laser to Android 8.0 towards the end of March, sadly the company couldn’t honor this promise.

Fortunately, and better late than never, Asus managed to fix all the issues that delayed the update and today the Oreo cookie is finally being rolled out to the eligible Zenfone 3 Zoom smartphones. Since this update is going out in batches, it could take a few days or weeks to arrive for all the smartphones.

Gizchina News of the week

The official changelog for the update mentions a slight decrease in the amount of internal storage that is available for the final user. That’s a little weird since with this update Asus will be removing some of ZenUI pre-installed apps such as Minimove, PhotoCollage and Do It Later. The Android 8.0 Release brings the picture-in-picture mode, Notification Channels, Autofill API, and a new “Swipe up to App drawer” in the ZenUI stock launcher.

If you’re not patient enough to wait, possibly until the end of this month, you can try to force the update heading to Settings >> About >> System Uptades and checking if there is a new software available for download.
