Following series of leaks, rumors, and official teasers, Samsung has today expanded its Galaxy J series of smartphones with the unveiling of the Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 duo in India. Both devices, as expected were announced alongside the Galaxy A6 and A6+, leaving out the long-rumored Galaxy J4.
Both devices – the Galaxy J6 and J8 looks virtually the same in terms of designs and are available in exact color options – Blue, Black, and Gold. Both features Super AMOLED Infinity Displays with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 with a 2.5D curved glass in that order, but that’s about all there similarities they have.
Samsung Galaxy J6
Encased in an all-plastic body, and flaunting a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED 18.5: 9 Infinity 2.5D curved glass display, the Samsung Galaxy J6 uses the home-grown octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset, with two RAM and storage options – a 3GB RAM +32GB and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variants. Both variants come with the option to expand the storage up to 256GB with microSD.
Powered by a 3000mAh battery, the budget Galaxy J6 comes fitted with a single 13-megapixel rear camera with a fixed f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash, while a single 8-megapixel sensor with a fixed f/1.9 aperture sits above the display for selfies. It runs on Android Oreo out of the box with full connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, and GPS. It uses dual SIM and comes with a rear fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy J8
The Samsung Galaxy J8, on the other hand, looks like an enhanced version of the Galaxy J6 with larger display, more capable Chipset, roomy storage, larger battery capacity, and more capable cameras.
Unlike the Galaxy J6, the J8 gets a larger 6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED 18.5: 9 Infinity 2.5D curved glass display and has dropped the homemade chipset for the Snapdragon 450, and is available only in 4GB RAM with 64GB storage variant.
In terms of optics, the new Galaxy J8 comes with a dual rear camera setup comprising a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash coupled with a 5-megapixel rear for bokeh, while a similar 16MP sensor with LED flash, f/1.9 aperture sits above the display.
The device is powered by a 3,500mAh battery, while other specs and features are largely the same as the Galaxy J6.
The Galaxy J6 will be available from May 22nd on Flipkart at Rs. 13,990 / $205 and Rs.16,490 / $245 for the 3GB RAM +32GB storage and the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage respectively, while the Galaxy J8 will go on sale later in July at Rs. 18,990/ $278.
