Some TV boxes have gained popularity, while there are too many models keeping a low profile. The Mecool KII Pro belongs to the latter. It’s a mid-range Android-powered TV box that has managed to become a best-seller, but many customers bypass it for unknown reasons. As this TV box is currently offered for a 16% discounted price tag of $79.99, we decided to take a quick look at its key features.
Externally, the Mecool KII Pro follows the line of the devices of this brand. It’s made of plastic. On the top, it sports a LED display accompanied by the power button and an IR receiver hidden behind the front black plastic. A microSD card slot is placed on one of the sides. It is paired with a self-extracting mechanism and four USB 2.0 ports. The rest of interfaces are placed on the back. They include antenna connectors DVB-T2 and DVT-S2 / C, AV jack, 10/100 Ethernet port, HDMI 2.0 connector, optical audio output and 12V power connector.
Gizchina News of the week
The Mecool KII Pro is packed with an Amlogic S905D processor, which provides a smooth and stable performance. This SoC is also coupled with a 2GB of RAM that is the minimum to move apps correctly today. There is also a 16GB of eMMC storage. As we are dealing with a device powered by the AMLogic SoC, it has a single partition in the storage, which facilitates the management of our files. The chip has a video output support for HDMI 2.0a and supports a maximum resolution of 4K@60fps with HDR information and 10-bit color. It is paired with a Mali-450MP GPU as well.
Our protagonist runs on Android 7.1.1. There are not many installed applications, including only AirPin Pro and Miracast that allows us to share the screen of our mobile, an appInstaller, Chrome, File browser, a Netflix app, TV Center (Kodi), app to update, Youtube for tablets and DTV to see the content through the tuners.
This TV box comes with an ac Wireless Wi-Fi Adapter and 10/100 Ethernet chip. But as we said above, the Mecool KII Pro has a Gigabit 10/100 connector. As for the DRM certificates required for some streaming apps, there is only Google Widevine L1 installed by default. It’s something usual in this type of models and it allows us to see Netflix in HD quality.
The reasons are easy to understand: for 120$ you can buy KIII Pro. New and powerful chipset (S912), more RAM, better dual band wifi (on K2 is weak), h.265 and hdr hw decoding.
