Just a few days after it reportedly received regulatory approval in China, VIVO has today announced the VIVO Y83 without much fanfare. Sporting a premium design with a full-screen design and a notch at the top, the VIVO Y83 is the first ever device to use the recently announced MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with its AI features.
Available in Aurora white, Polar Black and Red colour options, the vivo Y83 appears to be made of an all metal design with a glossy finishing achieved using a new high-gloss coating technology. It gets the trendy 19:9 aspect ratio, and that means the fingerprint sensor should be at the rear, but there is actually no fingerprint sensor, it relies solely on the facial recognition feature for authentication.
The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with vivo’s FunTouch OS 4.0 skinned on top and features a 6.22-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 1520×720p and an aspect ratio of 19:9. In terms of the innards, the device uses the newly unveiled Octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 boasting of an octa-core CPU with Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The Chipset comes with a low-power, “highly capable hardware depth engine for real-time Bokeh preview”. In terms of memory, the Vivo Y83 has a 3GB RAM + 64GB storage combination. The storage on the device is further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. It comes with three card slots – two for SIM cards, and a third one dedicated to memory expansion.
Gizchina News of the week
Coming to the camera department which is probably the most interesting, the Vivo Y83 comes with a 13MP primary camera with a f/2.2 aperture that can capture great pictures in any environment; this is achievable using the Helio P22 EIS, RSC and advanced 3A, plus an ultra-fast CCU that delivers considerably faster-focusing exposure adjustment to accurately counter sudden lighting changes. At the front, the device incorporates an 8MP front-facing camera that uses the AI-tech to securely unlock the smartphone. The device incorporates VIVO Jovi AI – an Artificial Intelligence assistant – which claims to “know you better than you”. It can follow your daily activities and provides smart information within the context of what you’re doing to make your everyday life easier.
The vivo Y83 is fueled by a 3260mAh and comes with a full host of connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, FM Radio and a 3.5mm audio jack. The device is now on sale in China, via Vivo official online shop and is priced at 1,498 yuan ($235).
