It’s not the first time we’ve heard it and it is eventually bound to happen. Last year we saw a report from Bloomberg that suggested a triple camera iPhone is coming in the future. To back that up, there’s another report today. A research note from Deutsche Securities analyst Jialin Lu was cited by a Taiwanese website fanning more flames of a triple rear camera.
As per the research note, this will be an implementation that will enable AR via 3D sensing. Lu’s research note states a bit different method to the one Bloomberg reported earlier. He says that two of the three sensors will capture a single object from different angles. Thereafter a triangulation method will measure distance between the iPhone and the object. The third lens would be for depth-sensing purposes like the P20 Pro. We can expect something like a 3X optical zoom without loss of quality. This is like the TrueDepth system that inhabits the front of the iPhone X.
Gizchina News of the week
It’s no secret that Tim Cook. Apple CEO is a big proponent of AR and this lends a bit of credibility to today’s report. Apple has been pushing AR for some time as evident by the way they are opening ARKit platform to developers.
For now, the Huawei P20 Pro is the sole crown holder that boasts of the triple camera setup. The flagship flaunts a 40MP lens, a 20MP monochrome sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens. If these reports are true, 2019 would be an interesting year for Apple enthusiasts.
