You may recall that a couple of days back, a report emerged that OPPO has already placed orders for Samsung’s OLED panels that will eventually end up in one of its upcoming smartphones. While there are speculations that the order might not be for the OPPO FIND X which is due to drop in the coming days, the latest scoop out of Korea again suggest Samsung might have clinched another supply deal with Huawei.
The Bell reports that Huawei has placed an order for the supply of a 6.9″ flatAMOLED panels from Samsung Display. The 6.9″ flatAMOLED panels according to the Bells is for a device tipped to arrive later in the fourth quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2019 and going by Huawei’s launch pattern, the said supply might end up being used for the pro variant of the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 series.
Gizchina News of the week
If the report is anything to go by, the choice of a 6.9″ display would definitely place the Mate 20 ahead of the Note 9 from Samsung and Apple’s next iPhone which is tipped to come with a 6.45″ display. The choice of a large 6.9″ display could also be attributed to Chinese consumers choice of bigger screens on smartphones than people elsewhere, probably as a result of the large text area occupied by the Chinese characters.
Do note that this is a guesswork, as the report didn’t expressly make reference to the Huawei Mate 20, so there are possibilities that Huawei might as well be cooking up a new device that might drop at about the said Q4 2018.
Predictably, the Huawei Mate 20 series is tipped to come with the yet-to-be-announced HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC alongside 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variants.
