The Snapdragon 710 is a solid chipset and an upgrade over the Snapdragon 660. It is built on the 10nm process and is already found its first home in the Xioami Mi 8 SE. Other devices like the Vivo Nex and Nokia’s Phoenix device are also set to feature the processor. On the other hand, Huawei’s has the HiSilicon Kirin 659 which it used recently in the P20 Lite. The Chinese chip maker lacks a proper competitor to the Snapdragon 710, and reports say, we’re in for an upgrade.
Huawei is working on a Kirin 710, that although would be named identically, differs much in actual build and performance. While the Snapdragon 710 is made with the 10nm process which leads to greater performance without battery compromise, the Kirin 710 will be based on TSMC’s old 12nm process. This will result in better performance but, on the other hand, sacrifice battery life. As a positive note, it will be loaded with a dedicated NPU for AI processes.

That said, exact specifications and details are still unknown regarding this SoC, more so because we’re hearing about it the first time.
As for when we’ll be able to see the Kirin 710 in action, the report here states it could be anytime next month. Do note that Huawei has done nothing to confirm the existence of this new CPU, however, reports state a launch of the Huawei Nova 3 will be the perfect stage for the new chip to mark its arrival. Another prospect that could feature the chip is the Mate 20 Lite. That said, this is just guesswork and we’re looking for Huawei’s confirmation regarding the same.
