USB Type-C ports have slowly become the standard in Android phones and Windows laptops, and Apple has been doing the same on their lineup of MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Where Apple are still stubborn though, is their mobile phones series.
The Cupertino company is indeed still shipping iPhones with the proprietary Lightning port, which makes it much harder for iPhone users to find a compatible cables (if their fails), while also limiting the charging speeds and data transmission rates to and from the handset.
The situation is expected to change now though, as news break out about Apple’s plans to pack their future devices with USB Type-C ports.

According to DigiTimes, sources from the supply chain have said that Apple is redesigning the charger and related interfaces for the next generation of iPhones and iPads, and that the iPhone will be equipped with a Type-C interface in 2019.
Sources said that Apple’s use of the Type-C interface on the iPhone will speed up the follow-up speed of other smartphone manufacturers. In addition, the same sources also confirm that Apple will not use the Type-C interface on the iPhone releasing in 2018, since the new phone is going to launch in around three months and Apple is still in the designing phase.
