Samsung’s impact on the entire smartphone industry chain is quite solid and it practically owns the OLED market. Most iPhones makes use of Samsung’s OLED display which means that other OEMs will have very little or nothing to use. At present, Samsung still dominates the production of AMOLED panels. Its annual production capacity will exceed 100 million in the next five years and it will continue to dominate the supply of global AMOLED panels. Of course, LG, JDI, etc. are also rapidly catching up but there is still a strong monopoly in this market.
Gizchina News of the week
In order to break this monopoly, and of course conform to the development of the entire market, some Chinese manufacturers such as BOE Technology Group, China Star Optoelectronics, Tianma Microelectronics, Hehui Optoelectronics, Kunshan Guoxian, and Rouyu Technology have begun mass production of AMOLED display. The production capacity is about 4.02 million, of course, this production capacity is still quite limited, but the momentum of the catch-up is becoming stronger.
It is worth noting that there have been previous reports that Apple tested BOE’s OLED screen and intended it to produce a part of the OLED screen used by iPhone. If this happens, Chinese OLED suppliers will grow even faster.
