Xiaomi Is Working On A Smartphone For the U.S.

No doubt, the Chinese smartphone market is over-saturated and even though some indigenous Chinese companies (like Huawei and Xiaomi) are doing well in China, they are still searching for other options to explore. This U.S. smartphone market is quite lucrative to traverse but its stringent laws and government concerns are making it quite difficult to penetrate. In recent times, Huawei has tried to enter the U.S. to no avail but current reports suggest that Xiaomi is actively preparing to enter the US mobile phone market next year and the company is very confident about it.

Wang Xiang, senior vice president of Xiaomi, said that the U.S. market is very attractive, and Xiaomi is also increasing its engineering and technical resources to develop mobile phones compatible with the US mobile network. Wang Xiang said, “We hope to do something there next year.” However, Wang Xiang emphasized that the negotiations between Xiaomi and the US operators have not yet reached a specific agreement.

In an interview with CNBC in February this year, Wang Xiang said that Xiaomi has always attached great importance to the US market. The US market is very important to Xiaomi, but the company is very cautious in investing resources strictly for American consumers. Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, has also revealed that he has been considering entering the U.S. market and plans to officially enter the US market at the end of 2018 or early 2019.
