Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, has been trying to penetrate the United States for some time but the government is not making it easy for the company due to its purported “strong ties” with the Chinese government. A recent report shows that Huawei has sent a letter to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), saying that the United States will gain a lot from Huawei’s leading technology. It pointed out that FCC’s exclusion of Huawei will push up the general cost for US consumers. Huawei’s response was to refute the FCC’s Rulemaking Notice (NPRM) on “Protecting the Communication Supply Chain from National Security Threats.”

Huawei also said that if it enters the US market, US consumers will save more money in telecom services: “If Huawei was allowed to compete freely in the US, its mobile infrastructure would have saved at least 20 billion Yuan ($3 Billion) between 2017 and 2020.” In addition, operators who are already using Huawei equipment will spend hundreds of millions of dollars if they cannot obtain parts and services from Huawei. Finally, Huawei believes that the FCC does not have the power to make such rules. Even if they have, such rules are too arbitrary and capricious.
