Huawei has been rumoured to have been developing their own AI Assistant. From three recent trademark applications that the company submitted to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office), it seems like the Chinese tech giant is getting ready to bring their AI-powered smart gadgets to the market. The filing was approved by the EUIPO on the 3rd of July 2018.
The three trademark applications detail three different devices, Huawei Halo, Huawei AI Cube and Huawei Inter Home. All three of them fall under the ‘smart speaker that integrates the functions of a router, voice assistant, and loudspeaker with high-quality sound’.

Huawei is not the first one to take a step like this. Asus integrated Amazon’s Alexa on their Asus Lyra Voice AC2200 router. Combining a smart speaker and router seems like an innovative idea. There’s also a possibility that Huawei is working on a standalone smart speaker, details of which are still unknown. Rumours are rife that Samsung is also working on a Bixby based smart speaker. It is not clear as to when Huawei or Samsung would unveil their speakers but IFA 2018 seems like a good venue. It will be held from August 13 to September 5 in Berlin, Germany. Stay tuned!
