Qualcomm has just put up a teaser on its official Weibo page hinting at an announcement that will be related to gaming. The event is to take place tomorrow and it looks like Qualcomm might surprise the industry with a GPU Turbo-like development of its own. According to reports, the new advancement could be dubbed “Adreno Turbo” named behind Qualcomm’s Adreno line of GPUs that it uses with its processors.
The Adreno Turbo tech would do for Qualcomm-powered Android phones what GPU Turbo does for Huawei devices. Despite the teaser, it is also possible that Qualcomm ends up launching nothing else but just another new chipset since these are our assumptions.
Gizchina News of the week
Huawei’s GPU Turbo was announced at the launch of the Honor Play last month much to the surprise of everyone. It was the “scary” technology that anyone did not expect. Huawei went on stage and promised a performance jump of 60 percent in gaming and power efficiency by 30 percent. GPU Turbo’s effects would also stretch to other areas such as AR and VR as Huawei said it would enable better frame rates and smoother operations. It also offers HDR picture quality hence sharpening the images and further improving graphics in gameplay.
If Qualcomm indeed does reveal such a new software-based upgrade, it will lead to major smartphone OEMs scrambling to get the upgrade for their new devices gradually. We might also see a new device come ready with Adreno Turbo out of the box soon after Qualcomm’s announcements.
