LG Trademarks LG V90 moniker

We are yet to get any trustworthy information regarding the next major update to LG V series of smartphones, which should be the LG V40, assuming LG sticks to its release pattern. However, a new report from Phonearena earlier today suggests the V series of LG phones might stretch all the way to LG V90.

We say so because the Mexican arm of the Seoul-base tech giant appears to have filed a trademark for the LG V90 moniker recently on July 13. Although no details have been given, the trademark which was lodged with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) relates the term to smartphones and telecommunications equipment, which gives us the assurance that it might be for a smartphone which might end up with the Phablet V series of LG phones.

We do not expect to see the LG V90 smartphone launch soon, but it a clear signal he Korean giant got long-term plans for the phablet-sized V series, which is its own take on the Galaxy Note series from Samsung.

Gizchina News of the week

The next major update to the LG V series lineup – the LG V40 ThinQ has been in the headlines a couple of times now, but there are currently no trusted information regarding the device, and it is also not clear whether or not it will debut at the upcoming IFA event kicking off later on August 31, which we think is very likely considering that the V series usually gets refreshed at the Berlin show. However, a previous report quoting Myung-bak Lee, a senior LG official, announced LG will launch the LG V40 in early October in an apparent movie to avoid clashing with the Galaxy Note 9 from Samsung tipped for August 9 launch date.

Codenamed Storm, the LG V40 could come with a notched display and up to 90% STB ratio up from 81% on the V30 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor under its hood. The device is tipped to feature a total of five camera setup – a rear triple-lens camera setup made of a 20MP, 16MP, and 13MP camera sensors, with one acting as a primary lens while the other two will be a super wide-angle and telephoto lens respectively.
