The Moto G5 Plus was announced by Motorola back in February 2017. The handset was one of the company’s best offering for the mid-range segment on that year. Equipped with Snapdragon 625 SoC and shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat the mid-range smartphone was competitive enough to deal with the fierce budget-market fight.
Since the release of Android Oreo, the Moto G5 Plus owners have been eagerly waiting for an update from the Lenovo-owned company. The handset indeed was present on the Lenovo schedule for the Android 8.0 update, and today the Chinese company is giving its first step to deliver the massive Android 8.1 Oreo update for the handset.
The Moto G5 Plus is receiving its official Android 8.1 update through the company’s usual Soak test, currently limited to Brazil. The updates weigh in at 1,04GB and carry the OPS28.78-2 build label. Alongside the goodies brought by Google with the latest cookie, Motorola is forwarding the July Security Patch.

The soak test purpose is mainly to find, with the help of users, issues that may have been missed during the software testing phase. Users in Brazil and other supported regions that want to test this new update can enroll the device through Motorola’s Feedback Network (MFN). If you find any bug, you can easily send a feedback directly to the company. Once that the company considers the build ready enough, they’ll start to deliver a definitive update for the Moto G5 Plus.
We just hope that the company sorts out all the remaining bugs and this update gets rolled for everyone. With Android Oreo near to complete 1-year of existence, it’s better having it than never receiving an update.
