Recent statistical data from Google shows that a lot of Android users are still using Android Nougat or older and only a small fraction of Android users are actually on its current Android 8.0 Oreo. However, this has not stopped Google from developing its latest Android 9.0 system, otherwise known as Android P. Last week, Google released the last beta of Android P and it appears that the company is set to release its new Android system.

Now, popular leakster, Evan Blass, exposed a calendar of August 2018 and a green letter “P” is written on the 20th. This is quite explicit, Android P will be released on August 20. Coincidentally, Android 8.0 was also released last August. Android 9.0 will bring a lot of new changes, especially the comprehensive support for displays with a notch. Before now, Android UI product manager Megan Potoski wrote on a blog post for developers where he stated that Google is working on a mandate for Android P. According to the mandate, Android P phones cannot have more than two cutouts on a device. Only one notch is allowed per side and notches are only allowed on the top and bottom edges, not on the left or the right. With Android P, Google is quite open with the preview test phase. In addition to its own Google Pixel series, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Nokia, Sony, vivo, OPPO, and Essential models have also been added to the preview.
