Xiaomi Mi 8X in the Works?

The Xiaomi Mi8 was launched in three variants back in May. According to images that were posted on Weibo, there will be another variant called the Xiaomi Mi 8X. Why another Mi 8 variant? The following speculations might throw some light on that question.

According to the leak, the Mi 8X will sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, that the Mi 8 SE ships with. If the images are to be believed, it will come sans a fingerprint scanner on the back. This opens up two possibilities, facial recognition or an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to the leak, the Mi 8X will sport an in-display fingerprint scanner like the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. As to why a combination like the Snapdragon 710and in-display fingerprint scanner, Xiaomi might be looking to bring premium features at an even affordable price than the Mi 8. Huawei recently employed a similar approach to the Honor Play which is a gaming-centric phone that features Huawei’s flagship Kirin 970 chipset. Honor cut down on other specs like the camera to allow for a better processor. Xiaomi might be aiming to take a similar step.

Gizchina News of the week

The two images show a phone in white and blue, both with a glossy finish. It’ll likely be a glass back. Another image showed the company’s CEO, Lei Jun holding a similar phone. A report from about 4 months ago, revealed that there will be two Xiaomi phones with the Snapdragon 710. Till now, only one has seen the light of day. So there’s reason to believe that this tip is true.
