Forget the reported decline in smartphones and tablet sales, studies say more and more users are beginning to use the internet on daily basis. With a beam light on China, a report put together by the China Internet Network Information Center says the number of internet users in China has increased to over 802 million, and out of that figure, the report says about 29.68 million only started using the internet in the first half of 2018.

Gizchina News of the week

The figure takes the percentage of internet users in the country of over 1.4 billion people up to 98 percent, and as pointed by IMF report, is far more than the total internet users in Japan, Russia and the US where the individual number of internet users stand at 128 million, 89 million and 300 million respectively.

The report said that 788 million Chinese used mobile phones to surf the internet in the first half of 2018, making up 98.3 percent of the total internet users. The report didn’t delve into the possible reasons for the increase, however, that might not be far from the fact that more supposed feature smartphones are now internet enabled.
