LG announces its first Android One phone – the LG G7 One

Its been barely four months since the LG G7 ThinQ was announced, and LG has already given the device a new facelift. Ahead of its IFA press briefing, LG mobile division has announced two new iterations of the LG G7 ThinQ – the LG G7 One and LG G7 Fit. While both devices share some things with the flagship LG G7 ThinQ, they differ significantly, in that they use different SoC and camera sensors.

LG G7 One

The LG G7 One is an Android One phone, and incidentally LG’s first foray into the AndroidOne bandwagon, but we don’t expect it to come cheap like most  other Android One smartphones. It retains the flagship G7 ThinQ’s 6.1-inch QHD+ screen with a notch, but under the hood, it ditches the SD 845 for the Qualcomm flagship Soc from 2017 – the Qualcomm SD 835 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Images provided by LG suggest a dual rear camera setup, when in fact it mentions only a single 16MP rear camera with f/1.6 aperture, 71-degree wide-angle lens, LED flash and an 8MP front-facing camera.

A major selling point of the LG G7 One appears to be its OS- the device boots a stock build of Android 8.1 Oreo, and that means constant security update compare to the other non-Android One device.

Gizchina News of the week

The LG G7 Fit, on the other hand, isn’t suggestive of its name – while one will expect a compact display, the G7 Fit flaunts the same display with the G7 One – a 6.1-inch QHD+ screen which of course has a notch, and underneath that is the dated Snapdragon 821 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage. It gets just a single rear camera, and unlike the LG G7 One, the LG G7 Fit boots  Android 8.1 Oreo with LG UX out of the box.

LG G7 Fit specifications

  • 6.1-inch (3120 x 1440 pixels) 19.5:9 FullVision Super Bright IPS Display
  • Quad-core Snapdragon 821 Mobile Platform with Adreno 530 GPU
  • 4GB LPDDR4x RAM, 32GB / 64GB (G7+ Fit) (UFS 2.1) storage, expandable memory up to 2TB with microSD
  • Android 8.1 (Oreo) with LG UX
  • 16MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, 76-degree wide-angle lens, LED flash
  • 8MP front camera with 80-degree wide-angle lens,  f/1.9 aperture
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Water, dust resistant (IP68), MIL-STD 810G certified
  • Dimensions: 153.2 x 71.9 x 7.9mm; Weight: 160g
  • 3.5mm audio jack, 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC, Boombox Speaker, FM Radio
  • 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0 (3.1 compatible)
  • 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0
LG G7 FIT

Other specs are pretty the same for both devices and are quite similar to the flagship G7 ThiQ. They both possess the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, meet MIL-STD 810G requirements, have Hi-Fi Quad DAC, 8-megapixel front camera and a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0

Both devices will be showcased at the IFA conference a few days from now where the pricing and roll out plans will be made known. Do not mistake these devices for LG’s second offering for the year. The LG V40 is definitely in the making and could arrive before the year runs out.
