The SD 845 – the SoC that combines the computing, graphics, modem and other essential components of a mobile processor, is arguably the best SoC ever released in 2018, and that is evident in the fact that it powers virtually all the top-tier Android devices so far released in 2018. Although the SoC has now been dethroned by the Kirin 980 from Qualcomm, the latter is yet to debut with any devices.
Gizchina News of the week
While the SD 845 still remains Qualcomm latest and best, it will be swept off the stage soon as the sequel – the Snapdragon 855 looks set to take the stage. The SD 855 has now been spotted taking the Geekbech test with an unknown device. Although we have no way to tell with what device Qualcomm did the test, the Geekbench listing reveals the device ran Android 9.0 Pie with 6GB of RAM.
The result is a single core 3,697 score that is quite below Apple’s last year’s A11 SoC, while the 10,469 multi-core scores rival that of Apple’s A11 Bionic SoC. Apple is due to reveal its product line up for 2018 including the 2018 iPhone, the new A12 SoC on September 12, so there are chances the Apple’s A12 SoC will outdo the SD 855 which hasn’t even been released.
