Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, was recently caught in a mess of falsifying benchmark results and this was officially accepted by an official of the company. Huawei’s action is against the policy of some companies and UL (parent company of 3DMark benchmark) is one of them. As a result of the falsification, UL recently delisted four of Huawei’s devices. The affected smartphones include Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei nova 3, Huawei Honor Play, and Huawei P20. All delisted phones will no longer be ranked on 3DMark benchmark and they will appear at the bottom of the list of best smartphones.
Gizchina News of the week
UL stated that it tested some of these smartphones with the public version of 3DMark, at Google Play, and privately. There were discrepancies in the results such that the private test results were 47% lower than the public app. 3DMark scores are given by a series of work in the test. These Huawei phones were able to bypass these tests and get scores by simply recognizing the 3DMark app by name. This is obviously a sham and it is against the company’s rules. However, UL has contacted Huawei and the company has promised to “…provide users with access to “Performance Mode” so they can use the maximum power of their device when they need to.”
