It wouldn’t be a budget buying guide of Chinese phones without starting with Xiaomi, the company that always manages to hit the best bang for the buck with their releases. In the sub-100 (or just around there) category we indeed find the Xiaomi Redmi 6. The metal-built handset comes with a last gen MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core CPU along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (4GB and 64GB with a little extra), which powers the averagely sized 5.45-inch HD+ display.

In the camera department we find a 12.0MP + 5.0MP camera setup on the back, meanwhile selfies will be taken care of by a 5MP snapper.

Finally, the smartphone packs a good sized 3000mAh capacity battery, a rear fingerprint scanner and MIUI based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

2. LeEco Le 3 Pro

At just around $100, the LeEco Le 3 Pro is another really good MediaTek powered handset you should consider if you’re on a super tight budget. The smartphone does indeed pack a powerful MediaTek Helio X23 and is coupled with 4GB of RAM, we then find 32GB of internal storage (not expandable, so beware) and a big 4000mAh capacity battery.

Photographs will be taken care of by a Sony IMX258 image sensor of 13MP with F/2.0 aperture which supports 4K video recording as well as 120fps slowmo videos. Meanwhile selfies are shot on an 8MP snapper.

Finally, the LeEco Le 3 Pro sports a 5.5-inch 16:9 IPS display with FHD 1080 x 1920 resolution coated in 2.5D curved glass.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A still keeps a spot on our list for packing some solid hardware at less than $100. The Redmi 5A does indeed come with the good and extremely power efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The handset is then equipped with a 5-inch HD display, meanwhile cameras are 13MP on the back and a 5MP at the front. Battery capacity tops at 3000mAh, which should be plenty enough for a day of heavy use. The smartphone is also available in a Global version for the readers living outside of China.

Another great handset from LeEco/LeTV for around $100 is the X522. The smartphone is powered by the good performing Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The smartphone also comes with a 5.5 inch 1920 x 1080 display, screen a 16.0MP rear camera, an 8.0MP selfie snapper and a 3000mAh battery.

5. Homtom C2

Finally, the last smartphone we suggest getting for under $100 is the recently launched and very affordable Homtom C2. The handset packs a decent MediaTek MT6739V quad-core CPU along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage, meanwhile the screen is a 5.5-inch HD+ with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

On the camera side we find a main 13MP snapper produced by Samsung paired with a secondary 2MP and dual LED flash. On the front we instead find an 8MP shooter by Omnivision.

The Homtom C2 comes with a 3000mAh capacity battery and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
