It looks like the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is soon to break out of the confines of China. A Xiaomi device with model number M1807E8A was spotted at Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore at the weekend. This is the same model that was found at EEC with the Mi 8 Pro moniker. In Singapore too, it appears with the same Mi 8 Pro label.
Gizchina News of the week
Since the TENAA listing (found in July) clears much of the doubts surrounding the newly appeared model, it is sure to be the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. Currently, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is only for sale in China. The handset differs from the Mi 8 and has a unique transparent back. The dimensions of model M1807E8A are 154.6 x 74.8 x 7.6mm and it weighs 177 grams. The handset has a 6.21-inch OLED screen for the on-screen fingerprint sensor and a 3,000mAh battery. It also has 3D facial scanning, something that is closest to Apple’s iPhone X.
Besides these two features, it’s the regular flagship drill. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition features a Snapdragon 845 chip and has 8GB of RAM with 128GB of native storage. There’s no micro SD sadly but the transparent back makes up for it.
It is still to be seen whether Xiaomi will launch the latest flagship Mi 8 in other Asian countries. However, this new EEC, IMDA approval suggests the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will launch for sure. Still, nothing is certain unless Xiaomi says so.
