Lenovo is a top brand and now one can argue this. But it is not very successful in all markets it designs products for. Say, if Lenovo’s laptops are very competitive, the same can’t be said for the smartphones. The company has recently acquired Motorola’s mobile business and has already managed to launch a few models that are quite competitive and attractive. But in general, there is too much work to be done. They have reorganized and adjusted many times, but the results are counterproductive. At the Lenovo Transform 2.0 conference held in the United States, Yang Yuanqing, Lenov CEO talked about the future of Lenovo’s mobile business.

As Yang Yuanqing claims, Lenovo’s mobile business is currently making money. But there is a room for development. What’s more important, if Lenovo does not have a platform for developing computing devices and communication devices, it would be very difficult to cope with the needs of future smart IoT devices. The technical reserves of these two aspects are necessary. But they should move on as the mobile devices are smaller and the requirements differ a lot.
As for the integration with Motorola, Yang Yuanqing bluntly said that Lenovo is a bit anxious in the integration. He thinks that buying a business is to buy the ability. The latter should help the company in growing more rapidly. But in real, this ability is applicable to some markets only. There are many markets, where this ability can’t be used at all. If they are rushing to use this ability to develop and grow quickly, it may be counterproductive. So they have to pay tuition.
In addition, Yang Yuanqing also stressed that even if Lenovo’s smartphone business is still not so strong, they will not give up, and the upcoming 5G is the best outlet.
