Xiaomi Mi 8 series ships over 6 million units in four months

Today, Lei Jun announced on Weibo that the shipment of Xiaomi Mi 8 flagship series has exceeded 6 million units. Recall that the Xiaomi Mi 8 series was launched on May 31st, 2018 in Shenzhen thus the series took only four months to achieve this feat. Xiaomi Mi 8 standard version, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition was released on May 31st while the Xiaomi Mi 8 on-screen fingerprint version (also called Mi 8 Pro) and Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition (also called Mi 8 Lite) were added to the series on September 19.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 series is the company’s annual flagship which it used to celebrate its 8th anniversary. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 845 processor (Xiaomi Mi 8 SE uses SD710 while Mi 8 Lite comes with SD660), and the regular version scores up to 300,000 on AnTuTu. It is the world’s first dual-band dual-channel GPS mobile phone, with ultra-precise positioning, and is supported by Gaode map and Baidu map. Xiaomi Mi 8 uses the same dual 12MP AI zoom dual camera with the Xiaomi MIX 2S. After continuous professional adjustment by Xiaomi camera test laboratory, Xiaomi Mi 8 scored 105 points in the DxOMark testing.

Xiaomi has achieved remarkable results in the process of promoting high-end products. In August this year, Xiaomi’s financial report showed that the revenue of Xiaomi’s mobile phone business in the second quarter of 2018 reached 30.501 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 58.7%. At the same time, the average selling price of Xiaomi’s mobile phones in mainland China has increased by more than 25%. Mainly due to the strong sales of medium and high-end flagship models such as Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Xiaomi Mi 8 series in the Chinese market. Lei Jun also announced that in order to thank the market for its support, the standard version of Xiaomi Mi 8 will drop 200 yuan ($29) and the new pricing will be

  • 6GB+64GB version = 2499 yuan ($361)
  • 6GB+128GB version = 2799 yuan ($404)
  • 8GB+128GB and 6GB+256GB version = 3099 yuan ($448)

I have never seen the Xiaomi Mi 8 (8GB+128GB) Version sold to the public at any retailer. It was anounced in Aug or Sept and never actually sold. Just a ploy to get potential OnePlus customers to look at their phone, a old bait and switch tactic!!
