Today, Chinese manufacturer, Huawei, held a new product launch conference in London, England, where the company officially released the Mate 20 series. In addition to the 7nm Kirin 980 chip, the new Leica square triple camera setup became one of the major highlights.
Design & Appearance
The Huawei Mate 20 series Leica triple-cameras and flash matrix arrangement are inspired by the super-run classic lamp design. The 8 curved 3D glass body of Huawei Mate 20 Pro is highly symmetrical, and the smooth arc is gentle with full tension. The Huawei Mate 20 series is available in five colors which include cherry powder gold, bright black, sapphire blue, Aurora and enamel.
Display
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 6.39 inches 2K curved notched screen with a resolution of 3120×1440 and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Mate 20 Pro uses an innovative multi-level pressure-sensitive on-screen fingerprint technology and it comes with IP68 certification which means that it is protected from water and dust.
Huawei Mate 20 uses a 6.53-inch water-drop RGBW display with a resolution of 2244×1080 and a screen aspect ratio of 18.7:9.
CPU – Kirin 980
These two flagships are equipped with Huawei’s proprietary Kirin 980 processor, which is the world’s first 7nm smartphone chip. It has 6.9 billion transistors in the size of a fingernail, which makes it better than the 10nm process of the Kirin 970. The transistor density is increased by 55%. Moreover, Kirin 980 is the first chip in the world to implement Cortex-A76-based developers. It is the first commercial Mali-G76 GPU in the industry and when compared with the previous generations, its performance has increased by 46% and energy efficiency has increased by 178%.
More importantly, Kirin 980 innovatively introduces AI frequency modulation scheduling technology, which can learn frame rate, fluency and touch screen input changes in real time. This enables it to predict mobile task load and performance bottlenecks to timely modulation frequency scheduling.
In addition, the Huawei Mate 20 series supports the world’s first Nano-Memory Card, and the new storage format is 45% smaller than traditional microSD cards. Its new double-sided card slot design with two nano SIM cards or one nano-SIM plus one NM Card is quite interesting.
Gizchina News of the week
The SD cards can expand up to 256GB but you also have a 128GB internal storage in both smartphones. Not forgetting the RAM size, its 6GB.
Camera
The camera department of the Huawei Mate 20 series is another stronghold of these smartphones. According to Huawei’s official introduction, Huawei’s Mate 20 series is equipped with a “revolutionary matrix camera system.” The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro continues the P20 and P20 Pro outsole advantage.
Huawei Mate 20 triple cameras consist of a 16MP super wide-angle lens (17mm, f/2.2), 12MP wide-angle lens (27mm, f/1.8) and an 8MP 2x optical zoom lens (52mm, f/2.4). The Mate 20 Pro, on the other hand, is composed of a 40MP wide-angle lens (27mm, f/1.8), 20MP ultra wide-angle lens (16mm, f/2.2), and an 8MP 3x optical zoom lens (80mm, f/2.4).
The Mate 20 Pro can fully cover the 16-270mm focal length: 16mm super wide angle, 80mm 3x optical zoom, 135mm 5x hybrid zoom, and 270mm 10x digital zoom. At the same time, the Mate 20 Pro supports up to 102400 ISO, with incredible night shots, and still captures clear effects with a 0.5 lux brightness.
The camera of the Huawei Mate 20 Series also supports super macro shooting, and the Mate 20 Pro has a closest focusing distance of 2.5cm.
In addition, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 24MP 3D beauty selfies camera. The front 3D depth camera is based on a powerful AI algorithm, real-time modeling, and brings interesting AR interactive experience. The Mate 20 also has a 24MP selfie camera in its waterdrop notch, but there is no room for the advanced 3D face scanner.
Battery, OS & Availability
On the battery life, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 4200 mAh large battery which supports the 40W super fast charge and can deliver up to 70% in 30 minutes. It also has 15W wireless fast charging function and has the authoritative safety certification of TÜV Rheinland.
The Mate 20 comes with a 4000 mAh battery which supports 22.5W SuperCharge. It does not support wireless charging
