A large-scale survey of American teenagers found that their willingness to buy an iPhone has reached an all-time high. About 86% of teenagers said they are planning to buy the iPhone as their next smartphone. According to research firm Piper Jaffray, this percentage is higher than 84% in spring.
The survey was conducted in 48 states and a total of 8,600 young people participated in it, with an average age of 16 years. According to the survey, 82% of teenagers owned one of Apple’s phones. Now, 86% of them are going to buy an iPhone in the future. Only 10% of teens said they planned to buy an Android phone next. And that was down from 11% in the spring.
“Overall, we view the survey data as a sign that Apple’s place as the dominant device brand among teens remains intact,” Michael Olson and Yung Kim, the Piper Jaffray analysts, wrote.

The iPhone XR may be particularly attractive to American teenagers, offering some features similar to the iPhone X/XS, and at a significantly lower price. Analysts are optimistic about the iPhone XR sales, although this model has not officially entered the market.
In addition to the iPhone, the survey results show that the willingness to purchase Apple Watch has reached the highest level in history as well. Piper Jaffray said that American teenagers’ interest in Apple Watch has risen sharply, with 23% planning to buy Apple Watch in the next six months, compared with 20% in the spring of 2018.
Interestingly, when teenagers with higher family incomes were asked about their favorite watch brands (not the ones they were planning to buy), Apple Watch ranked second, only after Rolex.
