iOS 12.1 update will solve the “beauty filter” issue of the new iPhone

iPhone XS and XS Max iOS

iPhone XR is hit the market recently and many Apple fans are paying attention to this new device. Technically, the front camera and the rear wide-angle camera in iPhone XR and XS are basically the same. Thus, we expect both devices to have the same advantages and disadvantages in that section. A few days after the release of iPhone XS, users reported an issue with excessive skin smoothing (beauty filter issue) on the selfie camera.

Recent reports suggest that Apple is adjusting the smart HDR algorithm in iOS 12. The company is doing this to preserve more details when taking images and to solve the problem of beauty filters. This is in response to the excessive skin smoothing  (from inaccurate beauty filter selection) complain on the iPhone XS.

Gizchina News of the week

All three 2018 iPhones feature the new Smart HDR feature. Thus, new algorithmic adjustments will apply to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.  iPhone XR comes pre-installed with iOS 12.0.1, while iOS 12.1 is expected to be released in the next month or so. The upcoming new iPad Pro model may also come pre-installed with iOS 12.1. That is about the same time the update will be ready for download.

According to reports, the Smart HDR selected the wrong base frame for HDR processing during self-timer. It sometimes chooses frames with longer shutter speeds instead of selecting frames with shorter shutter speeds to freeze motion and preserve detail.
